Today's climate of opinion is that whilst this may create exposure to more merchandise, it detracts from the shopping experience, which for many is already unsatisfactory. As well as achieving its own financial aims a successful store also satisfies the needs of customers who must feel the shopping experience is pleasurable, mildly stimulating and under their own control.
