Bard’s paternal grandmother’s funeral was very peaceful and the relatives were somehow relieved that she eventually passed away; she was bedbound and confused in her last year of life, became bladder and bowel incontinent, screamed and cursed at her husband and relatives even in the middle of the night and became a burden for the relatives. Her husband who once loved her over everything felt then embarrassed about her wife’s behaviour; Bard recalled his grandfather praying to God for her death since he thought his wife would not have wished to live this way had she not been confused by her Alzheimer disease. Bard felt very irritated and asked his grandfather later why he had wished her grandmother’ death? He replied,” She was the love of my life as long as she was alive but became terminally ill and had a meaningless life caused by her condition. She was lying in her bed in her last weeks and became a sort of undead. I could take care of her anymore as I am old too but your parents did look after her. I thought she became a burden for all family members and I could not see her losing her dignity any longer so I prayed to God to release her and the family by her death.
